THE GREAT IDEAS ONLINE
A Syntopical Approach to the Great Books

A single conversation across the table with a wise man is better than ten years' mere study of books. --Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Max,

When I started reading the last two installments of Great Ideas Online [Issues 56 and 57] I sported a bushy, full head of hair. Unfortunately, throughout the reading, concepts and ideas continually flew over my head. At this time I have an obvious bald spot. Hopefully, my hair will grow back. At that time, I'll have to give those another try.

Max and Dr. Adler:

Belated Thanksgivings greetings to you both: we have much to be thankful for, including the both of you and your gifts to the rest of the world.

Anyway, my own elemental and periodic contribution lies in the following swipe at our scientific brothers and sisters.

In spite of what you might have heard, understanding molecular science is not that difficult. Even those with only an Arts degree need not be intimidated by the following:

Two atoms passing in the dark accidentally bump into each other.

Atom 1 says "Are you OK?"

Atom 2 says "No. I think I lost an electron"

Atom 1 says "Are you sure?

Atom 2 says "I'm positive"
